Daily Itinerary
SUNDAY
Arrival at Frankfurt International Airport. Transfer with airport porterage & guide to the CroisiEurope ship in Koblenz. En route, a group lunch will be served at a local restaurant. Ship embarkation takes place after 2:00 PM with the rest of the afternoon free for individual sightseeing in Koblenz, or relaxing on board the ship. Or, the ship’s hostess will take passengers on a walk around the town. A welcome drink is served in the ship’s lounge during the introduction of the crew. This is followed by dinner on board. Overnight is on board the ship in Koblenz. (Breakfast on the plane, L,D) .
MONDAY
The ship departs Koblenz early & begins sailing south while breakfast is served on board. Today, you will view the most beautiful stretch of the Romantic Rhine River. From Koblenz to Rudesheim, lush vineyards surround picturesque wine towns while castles are seen perched high above the Rhine River Valley. It is possibly the most beautiful part of Germany. After lunch on board & towards the end of the sailing day, you will pass the fabled Loreley Rock. Arrival in Rudesheim is scheduled for 4:00 PM. Shortly after docking, a minitrain picks up cruise passengers & takes them around Rudesheim to see this charming wine town. There will be a winetasting of the local product & a tour of the Siegfried Musical Instrument Museum. Arrival is back at the ship in time for dinner on board. Overnight is in Rudesheim & we highly recommend that you go into town after dinner to sample the nightlife on the famous street, called the Drosselgasse. It is alive with traditional German music & yet another chance to sample the local wines & beers. (B,L,D)
TUESDAY
An early morning departure from Rudesheim as you sail south. Breakfast is served on board while passing alongside the towns of Wiesbaden, Nierstein & Worms. Lunch is served on board prior to arrival in Mannheim & after lunch, a coach & guide is waiting to take passengers to the university town of Heidelberg, located on the Neckar River for a tour & a brief visit to the castle overlooking Heidelberg. (Please note there is limited access inside the castle & there is an addtional fee to gain entrance.) Upon completion of the tour, the passengers arrive back at the ship for a gala evening & dinner on board. The ship then sails overnight rather than docking for the evening in Mannheim. (B,L,D)
WEDNESDAY
Breakfast is served on board the ship prior to arrival in Strasbourg & disembarkation takes place at 9:00 AM. Waiting at the pier is a private coach & guide that will take you on a tour of one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe, the Alsatian city of Strasbourg. We start with a short drive to the city center & a walking tour that includes; a stroll around the Petit France section of the old city, a canal cruise & a visit to the beautiful red sandstone cathedral. There will be time to shop for souvenirs before having lunch at the Maison Kammerzell Restaurant, a building that dates back to the 1400’s. After lunch, it is back on the coach for a drive south along the Alsatian Wine Road. This section of France is known as a habitat for storks, excellent white wines & great cuisine, as well as, the beautiful flowers in each wine village along the way. We then go across the German border & on through the Black Forest to the charming village of Titisee where there will be an overnight & a group dinner. This is also the perfect place to buy an authentic Black Forest cuckoo clock & have it shipped back home. (B,L,D)
THURSDAY
Today you will have a chance to see one of the top gardens in the entire world on beautiful Mainau Island on Lake Constance (the Bodensee). This small island is the masterpiece & life’s work of Count Lennart Bernadotte, originally of Sweden. The Count died in 2004 at the age of 95 but not before transforming this park into an ecological paradise with flowers, shrubs & trees gathered from all over the world. The island also boasts a beautiful palatial estate, a fine restaurant, a petting zoo, a butterfly house & several greenhouses. It is worth seeing even if you’re not a gardener or a landscaper. A group lunch will be served during your visit & then it is back in the coach for a short drive to the wonderful city of Lindau, located on the southeastern shore of Lake Constance. The group will overnight in this undiscovered gem of Bavaria. (Please note that our goal is an overnight in Lindau but it is subject to availability. If not in Lindau, an overnight will be in a town on Lake Constance.) A group dinner is planned for this evening. (B,L,D)
FRIDAY
We depart Lake Constance after breakfast & drive through the Allgauer region of southwestern Bavaria to Oberammergau, home to the 2010 Passion Play. Upon arrival, you will check into your inn, or guesthouse. Lunch will be served before heading to the theater for the play. It is a short walk with the curtain going up at 2:30 PM. Between 5:00- 8:00 PM there is a break for a group dinner. The play resumes at 8:00 PM & concludes at 10:30 PM. (B,L,D)
SATURDAY
After a big breakfast it is back on the coach for a full day of touring that begins with a stop at the Linderhof Castle. It is rather small for a castle but very beautiful inside with well-manicured gardens. Linderhof is located in a forested area which only adds to its appeal. From Linderhof, we continue along Lake Plansee to the Austrian village of Breitenschwang for a group lunch of the local cuisine. After lunch, it is on to the legendary Neuschwanstein Castle which is world-famous as the model for Walt Disney’s movies. The castle is an absolute marvel that is not to be missed with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. From there, it is on to the Wieskirche, the little white rococo church. After a short visit, we head to Munich where you will check into the hotel upon arrival. Dinner is on their own in Munich. (B,L)
SUNDAY
Today begins with a tour of Munich where you will view the most famous places in the city, including; the Nymphenburg Palace, the English Garden, Karlsplatz, Schwabing & the Olympic Park, site of the 1972 Summer Olympic games. Upon completion of the tour, you will arrive back in the city center. Lunch is on your own & that evening there is a farewell buffet dinner & folkloric show at the world-famous Hofbrauhaus. (B,D)
MONDAY
After breakfast & hotel checkout, it is time to drive by motorcoach to the Munich Airport for the transatlantic flight back to the U.S. (B, Lunch on the plane)
